Tea guide

Slow flush and tired, ageing bushes.

Tea stage by stage

Tea bushes are plucked for decades, and the acidic soil they grow in wears out. Garden managers bring us slow flush, tired bushes and poor leaf quality.

Main growing areas: Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.

  1. Pruning and rest

    Cold season

Pruning resets the bush; feeding prepares new growth.

  2. First flush

    Spring

Even, strong flush starts the season.

  3. Main flushes

    Rains

    Steady nutrition keeps flush coming.

  4. Autumn flush

    Late season

The bush stores reserves for next year.
